Martí Olivella

Martí Olivella was born in 1955 (Barcelona – Catalonia – Spain)

He is director of Nova- Center for Social Innovation, (Barcelona – Spain) www.nova.cat. He was one member of first group on conscientious objectors to military service in Spain. Their struggle was a nonviolent strategy, against conscription and for a civil service. For this, he was in prison 5 months in 1977. He works to promote culture of peace and civil peace corps and to improve participatory and deliberative procedures. Nova is the first Organisation Member of Nonviolent Peaceforce in Spain. From 2005 Nova organise, with other European and Middle East organisations, the project “Support civil organisations of Middle East who work for nonviolent strategies to transform conflicts in this region” supporting some meetings to develop a Nonviolent Arab Network. Also to advocate for a Spanish Civil for Peace Institute lobbing parliamentarian groups and government. In 1991 he write “The power of Money” and from 2008 is Director of Barcelona Consensus www.barcelonaconsensus.org
