Activities proposed for WSF 2013

 

 

Activity 1: China and its Future — a Mapping for the People

 

Activity content:

Six scholars from Chinawill share their perspectives on the economic, cultural, social and political development of China, with a focus on people’s initiatives. They will dialogue with scholars and practitioners from Africa, Latin America and Asia.

 

Summary:

Making sense of China for the enhancement of people’s initiatives for the future, this forum with five scholars from China (Wen Tiejun, Dai Jinhua, Chen Xin, Lau Kin Chi, Pan Jie) will dialogue with scholars and practitioners from Africa, Latin America and Asia — Samir Amin, Francois Houtart, Vinod Raina, and others. This is a continuation
of the dialogues from two South South Forums on Sustainability (SSFS) that were held in China in Dec 2011 and Dec 2012, participated by thinkers and practitioners from over 25 countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. The website is southsouthforum.org

Activity 2: South-South dialogue on sustainability

 

Activity content:

Forum of scholars and activists from Asia (China, India), Middle East (Egypt, Tunisia), Africa (Senegal, South Africa), and Latin America (Mexico, Brazil) will debate issues of sustainability, decolonization, and alternatives to capitalism.

 

Summary:

This forum will be a sharing of perspectives on issues of sustainability, decolonization, and alternatives to capitalism by scholars and activists from China, India, Egypt,Tunisia, Senegal, Mexico and Brazil. Two South South Forums on Sustainability (SSFS) were held in China in Dec 2011 and Dec 2012, bringing together thinkers and practitioners from over 25 countries. This WSF forum will be a sharing of the dialogues and debates from the two SSFS Forums where the themes covered include food sovereignty and security, financial sovereignty, ecological sustainability, agrarian reform and rural regeneration, and communal cooperation and sharing of the common.
