Stephen Ching-kiu Chan

Stephen Chan is the Academic Dean of Arts and Professor of Cultural Studies at Lingnan University,Hong Kong. He was the founding head of the Cultural Studies Department, and has since 2004 coordinated the Kwan Fong Cultural Research & Development Programme to promote cultural research, education, and policy. Published internationally on Hong Kong culture, film, literature, education and cultural studies, Chan’s current interest is in applied cultural research and education, urban creativity, creative enterprise, audience development and cultural policy. He was a member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and Convenor of Heritage Watch and the People’s Panel on West Kowloon. Currently, Chan is Steering Committee chair of the Consortium for Inter-Asia Cultural Studies Institutes, and a Board member of the international Association for Cultural Studies representing the Asia constituency. He serves on the editorial board of a number of leading international journals in the field. Active in the civil society, he is a founding member of The Professional Commons, an independent policy think-tank, and a policy fellow of the Community Initiative. He is now a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
